CHILL Program

The Community CHILL (Completing Homework in a Learning Lab) Program is a homework completion program that is available to any 5th - 8th grade student living in or near the Eastown and River Haven Village communities.

The Community CHILL Program is begining its eleventh year at River Haven and its third year at Eastown. The purpose of this program is to provide a supervised location for students to complete assignments, catch up on past due work, study for tests and receive extra help right in their own neighborhood. Each CHILL location has a coordinator and an assistant. High school students also serve as mentors. Salvation Army provides a snack for students each day. The Community CHILL staff communicates with teachers so that we are all working on the same goals with students. Kids are rewarded weekly for good behavior, grades and work completion. Another important part of this program is community service. Students will be participating in several projects thoughout the school year to help serve our community.

River Haven CHILL is held at the River Haven Village Clubhouse and Eastown CHILL is held at the Salvation Army building. Both programs run Monday - Thursday. Lakeshore students attend from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

All students living in or near Eastown or River Haven Village are invited to enroll. Space will be limited to 20 students or less. Students whose applications have been accepted will be contacted to set up a start date if openings are available. Any additional students will be put on a waiting list.

This is a community program because it is funded by our community. The Greater Ottawa County United Way has supported our program for several years along with other local agencies and organizations. The Salvation Army and River Haven Village are also important parts of the program in that they provide us with a clean, warm and safe place for kids to spend their after-school hours. In the past we have had a group of high school mentors involved, and we hope to continue with this.

If you are interested in having your child attend the program, please print the application from this site or pick one up from Lakeshore's office. Applications can then be returned to the office.
